LABORATORY TECHNICIAN II (T-04)

Department of Physics, Loyola Schools

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Chairperson/Technical Director, the Laboratory Technician II carries out work assignments required for the efficient operation of the Physics workshop and laboratories.

Job Description:

  1. Constructs /fabricates physics laboratory/ demonstration apparatus based on working drawing and technical description provided by faculty member/technical director with the use of a variety of hand tools, woodworking machines, general machine shop equipments, measuring instruments.
  2. Constructs/ fabricates electronic equipment prototypes for
    faculty/students research projects based on working drawing approved by the
    technical director.
  3. Maintains and repairs Physics laboratory equipment and computers in
    the Department.
  4. Provide Technical Support (electro-mechanics): (a) Interprets working drawings and technical description of construction/fabrication projects. (b) Prepares detailed shop plan, bill of materials, and cost estimates. (c) Contributes in the design and fabrication of jigs/fixtures/tools. (c) Contributes in the planning, design, and implementation of workshop facilities improvement. (d) Performs the complex shop procedures and difficult trouble-shoots of faculty equipment. (e) Performs calibration procedures of instruments.
  5. Manages Laboratory Facilities and Supplies: (a) Schedules laboratory experiments in consultation with the faculty members concerned. (b) Acts as custodian of SEC Workshop equipment and tools. (c) Prepares and maintains control issuance for departmental and inter-departmental loans. (d) Prepares apparatus for laboratory or lecture session. (e) Tracks stock levels of consumables, laboratory supplies and hardware items, and submits the list for replenishment to the laboratory
    coordinator. (f) Purchases consumable and non-consumable supplies for (SEC) shop and
    laboratories as directed by the Facilities and Workshop Supervisor/
    Technical Director. (g) Recommends improvement and purchase of the laboratory materials/equipment and the Physics facilities. (h) Proper arrangement of machines, tools, equipments in the workshop.
  6. Performs other duties consistent with the above-stated functions of
    this position.

Qualifications:

  • College Graduate
  • With 3-5 years of experience in Electronics, and machining, a must
  • Knowledge in the use of variety of hand tools, wood working
    machines, general machines, shop equipment and measuring instrument
  • Familiarity with various electronics / electrical components
  • Proficiency in the use of electronic test instrument
  • Knowledge in MS Office application and computer repairs
  • With people and communication skills
