Specific guidelines for physics graduate programs

Ph.D. Physics

  1. Comprehensive exams may be taken only during the 1st Semester.
  2. Comprehensive exams may be taken in the 2nd Semester only if the student failed his or her 1st attempt. Failure in the comprehensive exams during a 2nd attempt would lead to immediate dismissal from the program.
  3. Student cannot enroll in Ps 310.1 and Ps 311.1 unless he or she has passed the comprehensive exams.
  4. A PhD student is required to publish one technical article, based on work related to his or her dissertation, in an ISI-indexed Physics journal. Proof of acceptance must be available before the student can proceed with the Oral Defense.

M.S. Physics

  1. Comprehensive exams may be taken only during the 1st Semester.
  2. Comprehensive exams may be taken in the 2nd Semester only if the student failed his or her 1st attempt. Failure in the comprehensive exams during a 2nd attempt would lead to immediate dismissal from the program.
  3. Student cannot enroll in Ps 309.1 and Ps 309.2 unless he or she has passed the comprehensive exams.

M. Physics
