2012 Erasmus Mundus Mobility with Asia (EMMA-West) program: Study and research grants

The Office of International Relations is pleased to announce the availability of several study/research grants for students and faculty, under the 2012 ERASMUS MUNDUS MOBILITY WITH ASIA (EMMA-West) program.

EMMA is a mobility program fully sponsored by the Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window action from the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Union. Its objective is to develop cooperation between Asian and European higher education institutions through the exchange of students and staff.  The exchanges will hopefully contribute in enriching the educational environment of both the Asian and European universities.

In the 2012 EMMA-West program, the Philippines can send as many as the following number of students/faculty to any of the European partner universities listed below:

  • Undergraduate:  2 (6 months)
  • Masters: 1 (6 months) and 2 (22 months)
  • Doctorate: 1 (10 months) and 1 (34 months)
  • Post-Doc:   1 (6 months)
  • Academic Staff: 2 (1 month)

This Academic Staff mobility involves training, teaching and/or research activities to be performed by academic staff of partner institutions (such as Ateneo de Manila University) in host universities.

The grants will cover roundtrip airfare; monthly stipend and health, travel and accident insurance.

List of the European partner universities:

  1. Universit? de Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France)
  2. University of Hiedelberg (Germany)
  3. “Lucian Blaga” University Sibiu (Romania)

  2. Applicants need to set-up Mobility Projects (MP). They are advised to visit the website of the partner universities for the available fields of study and requirements for admission.
  3. Only students who are currently enrolled are qualified to apply for the Ateneo slots for students. However, recent Ateneo graduates and non-Ateneo students may avail of a few slots provided by EMMA for them (referred to as TG2 or Target Group 2 in the website).
  4. The scholarship grants for students including post-docs will begin in September or October 2012, depending on the European university. However, the grants for Academic Staff may begin anytime between April and December 2012.
  5. Because of the different school calendar in Europe, the student scholarship recipients may have to skip one or more semesters at Ateneo.
  6. For the 6-months Bachelor’s screening, priority will be given to the JTA students.
  7. For the 6-month Master’s and 10-month PhD grants, the program is ideal for those who are on their thesis stage.
  8. Some European universities may require some proficiency in their language. Please visit their websites for additional information.
