SUBJECT: Schedule of Activities for Faculty Day for the Second Semester SY 2011-2012 on
11 November 2011


We would like to remind everyone that Faculty Day for the Second Semester, SY 2011-12 will be held on Friday, 11 November 2011 at the Leong Hall Auditorium.

The following is the schedule of activities:

  • 7:30  Mass at the College Chapel
  • 8:00-8:20  Registration
  • 8:20-8:30 National Anthem/Invocation
  • 8:30-8:50 School/Department/Center Introductions to be led by the Deans
  • 8:50-9:30 Update on University and Loyola Schools Planning by Dr. Edna P. Franco, Vice President for Administration and Planning, and Dr. John Paul C. Vergara, Vice President for the Loyola Schools
  • 9:30-10:00 Q and A with Dr. Franco and Dr. Vergara
  • 10:00-10:30 Break
  • 10:30-12:00 Lawak Tanaw, Lawak Galaw Session 1
  • 12:00-1:30 Lunch at Leong Hall Roofdeck
  • 1:30-3:15 Lawak Tanaw, Lawak Galaw Session 2
  • 3:30-4:30 Merienda

Sessions under the Lawak Tanaw, Lawak Galaw Program will be held after the 10:00am break.  Included in the program are training sessions for Turnitin, an academic plagiarism detector recently acquired by the Rizal Library. These sessions will take place in the
morning and afternoon. Those who have not yet attended orientations on Turnitin are  strongly encouraged to attend one of these sessions.

At 3:30pm, following the second Lawak Tanaw, Lawak Galaw session, we will regroup at the  Leong Hall Roofdeck for merienda.

Sign-up sheets for the various Faculty Day activities are with your department  secretaries. Kindly indicate which activities you will be attending by Thursday, 3  November 2011.

Alternatively, you may indicate “yes” to the items applicable to you below and send this  via email to your department secretary before Thursday, 3 November 2011.

Lawak Tanaw, Lawak Galaw Program:

  1. Basic Moodle/Power Point.  Learn how to use and master tools on the computer to enhance your teaching and presentations with Mr. Andrei Coronel of DISCS. (Maximum number of participants: 34)
  2. Improv.  Use improvisation to boost learning and interest in your class. Mr.Ariel Diccion of the Filipino Department is the perfect person to show you how it?s done. Simple exercises and games will make a difference in your semester. Participants should wear comfortable clothes. (Maximum number of participants: 20)
  3. Mendeley: A New Tool for Research.  Want to know how academic reference management software such as Mendeley can help organize your research work? Sign up for a demo session with Dr. Remmon Barbaza of the Philosophy Department and find out how this new tool might boost your work. Please bring your laptops with you for this session. (Maximum number of participants: 34)
  4. How to Get Published.  So you have a research project all written up or a creative project all ready for public viewing or appreciation. How do you get it published? Dr. Ma. Louise Antonette delas Peñas, SOSE Coordinator for Research and Dr. Michael Coroza of the Filipino Department share experiences, insights and suggestions on how to get your project into the hands of book publishers and eventually, your readers.
  5. Turnitin.  The Rizal Library has recently acquired Turnitin, an Internet-based academic plagiarism detector created by iParadigms, LLC. Academic institutions buy licenses to submit essays to the Turnitin website, which checks the documents for originality. Mrs. Lourdes David and Mr.Fernan Dizon of the Rizal Library take you step by step through this valuable tool.
